Laura Gillas, a licensed clinical social worker and mental health therapist has reopened her counseling
practice and is accepting a limited number of new clients.
Gillas returns to McMinnville from Bend, Oregon where she practiced at the outpatient counseling center for the St. Charles Medical Center and was a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team Member and the Central Oregon Multiple Sclerosis Support Group Leader. Gillas is opening a second office in Salem on SE Liberty.
Gillas is now accredited to treat clients using EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a powerful method of psychotherapy that adaptively reprocesses negative experiences that interfere with the way a person sees the world and the way they relate to other people. EMDR has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress and is an effective treatment for post traumatic stress. EMDR is found effective by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense, the United Kingdom Department of Health, the Israeli National Council for Mental Health, and many other international health and governmental agencies.
Gillas uses the latest in therapeutic techniques including Imago therapy for couples.
Gillas works with adolescents, adults, and couples specializing in trauma/abuse, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, adjustment issues, care-giving stress, relationship difficulties, and weight and health issues. A free brochure on EMDR may be obtained and Gillas can be reached at (503) 472-1301.
